About Us
At P.O.P. Movement, our journey began in 2013 with a simple yet profound vision: to empower underserved communities with focus on community restoration, job creation and financial education. As a Community Restoration Ministry based in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, we are dedicated to providing the tools and resources necessary for individuals to achieve financial independence and build brighter futures. Our commitment is rooted in personal attention, unwavering dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, ensuring that every community member we serve receives the highest quality support.
Organizational Background
The P.O.P. Movement was founded in 2013 as a faith-driven initiative dedicated to advancing economic empowerment and community restoration in underserved communities. Since establishing operations in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the organization has led programs and events that strengthen cultural heritage, provide workforce readiness training, and create opportunities for self-sufficiency.
Key milestones include:
-
2015–Present: Founding and sustaining Mound Bayou’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
-
2016–2018: Workforce readiness training for TANF and E&T recipients, graduating 27 participants across two cohorts.
-
2018: Launch of the city’s first Veterans Day Parade.
-
2019: Hosted Mrs. Opal Lee, “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” during her national advocacy campaign for federal recognition of the holiday.
-
Ongoing: Entrepreneurship education for youth, community events, and cultural preservation.

Problem Statement
The Mississippi Delta continues to face systemic poverty, limited employment opportunities, and restricted pathways for upward mobility. Federal and state policy changes have placed an increased burden on individuals receiving public assistance, requiring 80 volunteer hours per month for just $292 in food stamp benefits.
Key challenges include:
-
Lack of structured opportunities to fulfill requirements.
-
Barriers to workforce entry due to limited skills training.
-
Scarcity of small business development support in underserved communities.
Without intervention, cycles of dependency and poverty will deepen, further destabilizing families and local economies.
Our Mission
Our mission at the P.O.P. Movement is to address the financial challenges faced by underserved communities. We provide comprehensive training in life skills, personal development and financial education, equipping individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions, build wealth, and achieve lasting financial stability.
